Who's Who of the Canadian Collective

Picture
Jane Perry is the Music Director at the Unitarian Church of Calgary.  Before arriving in Calgary, she was the Music Director at the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa for eleven years.  Jane delights in creating space where amateur singers can find joy through music-making.  In Calgary, Jane conducts One Voice Chorus (a choir for GLBTQ singer and straight allies) and the Calgary Renaissance Singers & Players.  She continues to be very active in Canadian Unitarian music circles as a pianist, choral director and clinician, and is a co-founder of the Canadian Collective of Unitarian Universalist Musicians.

Susanne holds a college diploma in piano performance from Mohawk College (Hamilton), an ARCT in performance from the RCM, a B.Mus in Composition and Music Theory from McGill (Montreal), and an MA in Composition from York U (Toronto).  Originally from Hamilton, she has lived in Toronto for a decade working as a dance accompanist, piano teacher, and musical theatre accompanist.  She serves as the Music Director for the Neighbourhood Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Leslieville and is passionate about the connection between music, movement, and spirituality.  She leads a monthly Singing Meditation, plays bass in a rock band, and created and sings with the Comfort Choir who sing weekly at the bedsides of patients in the Palliative Care ward at Toronto East General Hospital. She also currently accompanies Dancing with Parkinson's, a dance therapy class for people suffering from Parkinson's Disease and is the Eurythmy accompanist at the Waldorf Academy.

Donna Brown has directed the Chalice Choir at the Unitarian Church of Vancouver since 1999. She started her musical education at seven with piano lessons at the Regina Conservatory. Donna loved to hear the different instruments, leading her to play many herself – clarinet, bass clarinet and oboe in her high school band; recorder, other early instruments and harp in university; and ukulele and guitar as a school teacher. Singing was also her passion, from elementary school choir to madrigals in Collegium while studying for her B. Mus. (UBC). Recently, she joined the alto section of Jubilate, an award-winning community choir directed by Larry Nickel. In June, 2015, Donna retired as a Gr. 7/Music teacher and is enjoying the opportunity to explore her other interests, including a newly discovered passion for bridge. She is also the new webmaster of the UUMC and is looking forward to connecting with UU musicians across Canada.
